French custard toast recipe details
- Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 slices of day old bread (french or Italian 1½ inch thick
- 1/4 cup butter
Beat three eggs slightly in shallow pan or dish. Add 1 cup milk and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Cut diagonally 4 slices day old French or Italian bread, about 1½ inch thick. Place bread in egg mixture and soak 15 minutes on each side. Heat 1/4 cup butter in large skillet. Fry bread slowly, about five minutes on each side or until browned. Serve hot with blueberry sauce and sour cream.
Serves: 4
Blueberry sauce: Combine 1/2 cup maple flavored syrup and 2/3 to 3/4 cup fresh or frozen blueberries. Add 1 teaspoon lemon juice. For thicker sauce, stir in 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water. Stir until thickened over medium heat.
