Sweet & Spicy Turkey Chili

Try this great chili with a twist–healthy turkey instead of ground beef. Inspired by Doug Matthews’ “Alligator Chili.”

Ingredients
Serves: 8- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 Vidalia onion, diced
- 1 green pepper, diced
- 2 pounds ground turkey
- 1 (35 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (32 ounce) bottle tomato or vegetable juice
- 1 (15 ounce) can black beans
- 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon chopped chipotle in adobo
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon celery salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Hot sauce, to taste
Preparation method
Prep: 30 mins | Cook: 2 hours1. Heat olive oil in a large soup pot over medium. Cook the onion & green pepper in the hot oil, stirring, until onion is translucent, about 10 minutes. Add turkey and brown slightly, about 5 minutes.
2. Add tomatoes, tomato juice, beans, chili powder, chipotle, cumin, cinnamon, celery salt, ginger, and salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then simmer loosely covered on low heat for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally and adding water if chili gets too thick.
3. Season to taste with additional salt, pepper, and hot sauce. Serve.
