Ingredients
2 | onions, chopped |
1 clove(s) | garlic, chopped |
4 sprig(s) | oregano, chopped |
1 tbsp | oil |
600 g | ground beef |
1 can(s) | tomatoes, peeled and diced |
salt and freshly ground black pepper | |

2 tbsp | butter |
2 tbsp | flour |
200 ml | milk |
300 ml | vegetable stock |
nutmeg | |
125 g | Mozzarella cheese, sliced |
1 kg | sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced |
Instructions
In a pan heat the oil. Fry the mince until crumbly. Add the onions and the garlic and stir-fry for some minutes more. Add the tomatoes and the oregano and season to taste with salt, pepper, sugar and cinnamon. Cover and cook for approximately 1 hour.In a saucepan melt the butter. Add the flour and cook stirring until pale yellow and smooth. Add the milk and the stock and bring to a boil, stirring constantly with a wire whisk. Cook stirring over low heat for 5 minutes. Season to taste with salt and nutmeg.
Cover the bottom of a buttered casserole dish with sweet potato slices. Spread with the béchamel and add again a layer of sweet potatoes. Divide a layer of the mince sauce on top of the potato layer and repeat the procedure until all is used up. Finish with a layer of mince sauce. Divide the cheese on top. Bake in the preheated oven at 180°C for 30-40 minutes.
