- Ingredients
- One 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- One 16-ounce loaf French bread
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Beat together cream cheese, sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until fluffy. Stir in nuts and set aside. Cut bread into ten to twelve 1-1/2 inch slices; cut a pocket in the top of each. Fill each with 1-1/2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture. Beat together eggs, whipping cream, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and nutmeg. Using tongs, dip filled bread slices into batter, being careful not to squeeze out the stuffing. Cook on lightly greased griddle until golden brown. To keep slices hot for serving, place them on a baking sheet in a warm oven.
Serve with choice of warmed syrup or warmed strawberry preserves.
Makes:10 to 12 slices.
