- Ingredients:
- 4 thick slices of bakery-style bread
- Strawberry jam
- 4 ounces fat-free cream cheese, softened
- Egg Beatersegg substitute – to equal 6 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vanilla
- Strawberry Syrup:
- 3/4 cup strawberry jam
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 Tablespoons cornstarch
Spray fat-free butter spray on frying pan at medium setting. On 2 slices of bread, spread a thick layer of jam. Make a cream cheese and jam sandwich. Beat egg substitute and vanilla. Dip each sandwich into batter. Cook each side until golden brown. Transfer to plate, cut into triangles, and sprinkle heavily with powdered sugar. Top with freshly sliced strawberries and strawberry syrup.
Syrup: Bring all ingredients to boil until jam is liquid, but somewhat thick. If its too thin, let syrup sit without any heat for 5 minutes; stir and it should be ready.
Serves: 2
Note: Slicing homemade bread into thick slices makes this French toast truly enjoyable. The richness of the cream cheese blended with the jam melts to an enjoyment for every mouthful. After one sandwich, there is no room for anything else; guests leave the table stuffed and content.
