- Ingredients
- 1 pound dried green split peas
- 6 cups water
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1/4 pound smoked ham, diced
- 3/4 cup diced celery
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1-1/2 cups diced potatoes
- 1-1/2 cups diced carrots
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Instructions:
Combine peas and water. Bring to a boil and cook peas for 2 minutes. Remove from heat, cover and let stand for 1 hour. Add remaining ingredients, except potatoes and carrots. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and cover. Simmer for 1-1/2 hours. Add potatoes and carrots; cook for another 30 minutes or until vegetables are done. If soup gets too thick, add broth.
