With a little advance prep, this burger goes together quickly and will hit all of your senses with heat, sweet, crunchy, and cheesy in one bite. Where’s the cheese? It’s stuffed inside the burger itself.

Ingredients
Makes: 6 burgers- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1 carrot shredded
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 3 Tbsp cider vinegar, divided
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 3/4 tsp black pepper, divided
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 Tbsp orange juice
- 1 Tbsp finely chopped chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
- 1 Tbsp adobo sauce
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp mustard
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 lbs ground chuck
- 6 slices pepper jack cheese
- 6 hamburger buns
- 2.8 oz can French fried onions
Preparation method
Prep: 15 mins | Cook: 40 mins | Extra time: 1 hour, chilling1. Prepare coleslaw first. Combine cabbage and carrot in medium bowl. In small bowl, combine mayonnaise, 1 Tbsp cider vinegar, sugar, and 1/4 tsp black pepper until blended. Add to cabbage mixture and toss to coat. Refrigerate for at least one hour or overnight.
2. To make barbecue sauce, combine ketchup, orange juice, remaining 2 Tbsp cider vinegar, chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, garlic powder, remaining 1/2 tsp pepper, and water in small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring regularly.
3. Preheat grill. Divide ground chuck into 12 equal portions and press into patties. Fold each slice of cheese in half, then in quarters. Place in the center of each of 6 patties. Top with remaining 6 patties and press edges firmly to seal.
4. Grill burgers to preference. Place on burger on each bottom bun and top with equal portions of coleslaw, French fried onions, and barbecue sauce to taste, followed by top bun.Tip
