Ingredients
½ tsp | easy-blend dried yeast |
300 ml | water, slightly warm |
500 g | flour, strong white |
1 tsp | salt |
230 g | butter |
½ tsp | garam masala |
½ tsp | coriander seed, grounded |
1 tsp | cumin seed, grounded |
Instructions
Combine the yeast with a little of the lukewarm water until it is dissolved and starts to foam.Place the flour and salt in a bowl, make a well in the centre and pour in the yeast mixture. Melt the butter and add approximately 125g to the mixture. Mix the butter and yeast lightly before stirring in the flour. Add the water little by little and knead lightly to a dough.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for at least 6 minutes or until smooth. Knead into a ball and lightly grease with oil. Cover and allow the dough to rise for about 30 minutes at room temperature until double in size.
Knead the dough once more and divide into 8 balls. Roll each out to a 14 cm round. Transfer to a floured baking tray and sprinkle with flour. Set aside to rise for further 20 minutes.
Combine the spices with the remained melted butter. Brush each round on the baking tray with the butter and spice mixture and cover with ovenproof foil.
Preheat oven to 220°C/ 425°F/ Gas Mark 7.
Bake on the middle shelf for 5 minutes. Remove the foil and brush the spicy breads with the mixture again. Bake for further 5 minutes.
