Ingredients
Serves: 10- 3 tablespoons cooking oil
- 1 large green bell pepper
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 2 pounds coarsely ground beef
- 2 (15 ounce) cans chili beans
- 2 (15 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
- 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 1 1/2 tablespoons ground nutmeg
- 1 1/2 tablespoons ground cloves
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoons mild chili powder
- 1 tablespoon pepper
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 8 drops Worcestershire sauce
Preparation method
Prep: 20 mins | Cook: 8 hours | Extra time: 8 hours, chilling1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat, and cook peppers, onions, and garlic in hot oil until softened. Add ground turkey and cook until meat is browned and crumbly, about 20 minutes. Drain well, and transfer to a 6-quart slow cooker.
2. Add remaining ingredients to the slow cooker, stir well to combine, and cover. Cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours.Go The Extra Mile
Make the chili the day before you want to serve it. Cook, then allow to cool and refrigerate overnight. In the morning (or when desired), return chili to slow cooker and heat on LOW for another 3 or 4 hours.
Alternate MethodCook on HIGH for 4 hours.
TipTo thicken the chili, combine 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of cold water in a small bowl. Slowly stir cornstarch mixture into stew with slow cooker set to HIGH, then repeat until desired thickness is reached.
