This simple, cheap beef stew packs your slow cooker with fall vegetables. And soon you’ll be packed with them as well. Yum. Inspired by Wayne’s “Hamburger Stew.”

Ingredients
Serves: 4- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup diced carrots
- 1 cup diced rutabaga
- 1 cup diced white onion
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1 (4 ounce) can mushroom pieces
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
- 1 teaspoon dried tarragon
- 1 teaspoon white pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 cup water
Preparation method
Prep: 20 mins | Cook: 8 hours1. Brown beef in nonstick skillet over medium heat. Drain thoroughly.
2. Place vegetables in a 6 quart slow cooker, starting with carrots and rutabaga on the bottom. Transfer cooked beef to slow cooker, add remaining ingredients, and cover.
3. Cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours, adding more water if necessary, until vegetables are very tender. Stir after about 7 hours to make sure flavors combine.Alternate Method
Alternatively, you can cook the stew on HIGH for about 4 hours.
