salt ash granola recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/2 cup honey
- 6 cups oatmeal (not the quick stuff)
- 2 cups bran flakes
- 4 Tablespoons whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup walnuts
- 1/4 cup powdered milk
- 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 1/2 cup wheat germ
- 1/2 unsweetened coconut
- 1/2 cup warm water
Heat over a low flame vegetable oil, peanut better, and honey. Mix in a large bowl (you can make a lot of substitutions here, depending on what you have on hand) oatmeal, bran flakes, wheat flour, walnuts, powdered milk, sunflower seeds, almonds, wheat germ, and coconut. Mix peanut butter mixture into dry ingredients, coating evenly. Moisten with warm water. Spread evenly on a cookie sheet and bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Watch the edges as they burn easily. I rotate pans and turn the granola after 15 minutes. After taking the granola out of the oven, turn it over and let it cool in the pan. Stir in some more raisins if you wish.
Keeps in the pantry for weeks. Add M&Mchocolate candies later to take with you when hiking Vermont’s Long Trail.
