Rich chocolate cake recipe details
Ingredients
115 g | unsalted butter, softened |
115 g | caster sugar |
1 tbsp | golden syrup |
¼ tsp | vanilla extract |
150 g | self-raising flour, sifted |
½ tsp | baking powder |
60 g | cocoa powder |
2 medium | eggs, beaten |
milk, to mix | |
icing sugar, to dust |
Instructions
Preheat oven to Gas Mark 3, 170ºC, 325ºF. Grease and line a 7-inch, 18 cm cake tin.Mix together all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add the syrup, vanilla and eggs and beat together. Add sufficient milk to bring the mixture together and to produce a soft consistency. Keep the milk to a minimum or the cake will probably sink in the centre. Beat for about 30-40 seconds and transfer to tin.
Bake for 1 ¼ hours or until well risen and firm. Allow to cool in tin for about 10 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack. Dust with icing sugar.
Option:
Divide the mixture between 2, 8-inch, 20 cm sandwich tins and bake for about 20-25 minutes or until well risen and firm. Fill (and top, if wished) with a chocolate or vanilla filling of choice.
