Red onion relish with balsamic vinegar recipe details
Ingredients
600 g | red onions, cut into strips |
3 clove(s) | garlic, finely chopped |
40 ml | olive oil |
1 tsp | yellow mustard seeds |
35 g | brown sugar |
80 ml | balsamic vinegar |
¼ tsp | salt |
Instructions
Heat the oil and fry the onions and garlic over low heat, covered, for about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally. Add the mustard seeds and cook for a further minute.Add sugar, vinegar and salt and bring to a short boil. Reduce the heat and cook for about 5 minutes until juices are reduced.
Put into sterilised jars, seal well and turn the jars upside down. Let it cool for about 15 minutes and turn back.
Serve with cheese, as a spread on sandwiches or with grilled/fried meat, fish or poultry
