Pioneer pears recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup light or dark rum
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 3 Tablespoons grated orange rind
- 1 cup cran-raspberry juice
- 3 cups water
- 4 to 6 pears (Bartlett or D’Anjou work best), peeled but with stems left on
In a large saucepan, add all ingredients except pears and bring to a boil, stirring regularly. Boil 3 minutes, then reduce heat. Add pears, set temperature on medium low or simmer. Cover and boil gently 15 to 20 minutes (longer at high altitude). Serve with garnish of fresh blackberries or orange slices to the side.
