No mess microwave corn on the cob recipe details
A simple way to make corn on the cob without the added clutter on the stove, or the added heat in your kitchen from boiling water. I usually make up several bags in advance and freeze them, sucking the air out through a small gap in the seal with a straw. Whether fresh or frozen, this corn comes out hot and delicious in minutes!
Ready in: 13 mins
Ingredients
Serves: 5- 5 cobs of corn, husked and cleaned
- 1 one-gallon zip-lock-style storage or freezer bag
- 1/4 C. butter or margarine, softened
- Salt to taste (optional)
Preparation method
Prep: 5 mins | Cook: 8 mins1. Place corn lengthwise in bag and seal, leaving a 1/4″ gap in seal. If freezing, place a straw in gap and suck air out of the bag, quickly sealing bag as you remove the straw to maintain vacuum. When you are ready to use, simply remove corn from freezer and open a 1/4″ gap once again in seal.
2. Microwave corn on HIGH for 8 minutes for fresh corn, or 10 minutes for frozen. Bag will expand and hold in steam, but the gap will prevent the bag from bursting. When done, remove bag from microwave with pot-holders and open away from face to avoid injury from steam.
3. Add butter to bag, reseal, and shake vigorously for 1-2 minutes until butter is melted and corn is coated. Serve, salting corn as desired.
