Mincemeat recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1 pound very lean beef or venison, cooked and ground or chopped
- 3/4 pound suet, finely chopped or ground
- 1 pound black currants
- 1 pound golden raisins
- 1 pound dark raisins
- 1 cup chopped glazed pineapple
- 1 cup chopped glazed cherries
- 1 cup chopped glazed mixed fruits
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups peeled, cored, and finely chopped apple
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 cup dry sherry
- 2 cups cognac
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- Grated peel of 1 orange
- Grated peel of 1 lemon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix all ingredients together and place in a large crock or glass jar. Cover and let stand in refrigerator at least 1 month before using. If mixture becomes dry at any time, add more sherry.
