Irish apple pie recipe details
Ingredients
3 large | cooking apples, peeled and cored, cut into evenly thick wedges |
2 tbsp | brown sugar, or to taste |
1 ½ tsp | cinnamon |
½ tsp | ground cloves |
2 tbsp | quince jelly or orange marmalade |
400 g | ready-made puff pastry |
melted butter, for glazing |
Instructions
Preheat oven to Gas Mark 4, 180ºC, 350ºF.Lightly butter an 8-inch, 20 cm deep pie dish.
Arrange the apple wedges neatly around the base of the dish. Mix together the sugar and spices and sprinkle over the apples.
Dot some marmalade over the apples and splash on 2-3 tablespoons of water.
Roll out the pastry to at least a 9 inch, 22 cm circle and lay over the top, tucking the edges under to form a neat edge. Brush the top of the pastry with melted butter and bake for about an hour or until the pastry is golden brown and well-risen.
Serve immediately with hot custard.
