Hearty venison stew recipe details
A simple but flavorful and great wild game stew. Here served with venison, but could work with other wild game. Give it some heat with sausage and peppers.

Ingredients
Serves: 4- 2/3 cup flour
- 1 pound venison stew meat
- 1/4 cup bacon drippings or canola oil
- 2/3 cup chopped onion
- 2 cups water
- 2 small tomatoes, peeled and chopped
- 2 teaspoons cider vinegar
- 2 small carrots, sliced
- 2 small potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1/2 cup chopped celery
Preparation method
Prep: 15 mins | Cook: 2 hours1. In a shallow dish, whisk together the flour, salt, and pepper. Dredge venison in flour mixture.
2. Heat drippings or canola oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Brown dredged venison in hot oil for about 5 minutes, searing the outsides, then add onion and stir. Add water, tomato, and vinegar.
3. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low for 1 1/2 hours. Add all remaining ingredients, cover, and simmer for 35 more minutes.
