Ham and swiss toast recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1 loaf French bread
- 12 slices Swiss cheese
- Thinly sliced ham
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Orange Glaze Topping
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 4 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon shredded orange peel
- 1 cup orange juice
- 2 Tablespoons honey
This is really easy to do and is a great version of French toast for those who aren’t really fond of sweet things for breakfast.
Grease a baking dish and cut bread into twelve 1-inch thick slices. Cut a pocket into each slice by cutting down the middle, but not all the way through. Fill each pocket with a slice of cheese and 2 slices of ham. In a bowl, combine the eggs, milk, and vanilla. Dip the bread into the mixture, coating both sides. Place on the prepared dish (I use a jelly roll pan) and bake in a 450-degree oven for 8 minutes. Turn the slices over and bake for 7 more minutes or until lightly golden.
Orange Glaze Topping: Dissolve the cornstarch in the cold water. Combine water with orange peel, orange juice, and honey in a saucepan and cook over medium-low heat until thickened, stirring frequently. Spoon over Ham and Swiss Toast.
