Gypsy casserole recipe details
Ingredients
750 g | stewing steak, cut into cubes |
600 ml | stout |
50 g | dripping |
40 g | flour, sieved |
½ tsp | mixed dried herbs |
1 tbsp | Worcestershire sauce |
100 g | mushrooms |
salt and pepper, to taste |
Instructions
Pour half the stout into a large bowl and place the steak into the bowl. Leave to marinate for 1 to 2 hours.Melt the dripping in a casserole dish and add the flour. Cook, stirring, for 2 minutes, then gradually stir in the remaining stout.
Bring to the boil, stirring. Add the meat, liquid, herbs and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Mix well and cover.
Preheat oven to 150°C.
Transfer to oven and cook for 1 1/2 – 2 hours. Stir in the mushrooms, cover again and cook for a further 25 minutes.
