Grandma's overnight delight recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1 loaf whole wheat, French, or sourdough bread
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups milk or half & half
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon mace
- Topping:
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1-1/3 cups brown sugar
- 3 Tablespoons dark corn syrup
- 1-1/3 cup pecans
Butter a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Slice bread in thick slices and lay on bottom of pan. Beat other ingredients with eggs and pour mixture over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Mix topping and set aside until morning. Spread topping over bread slices. Bake at 350 degrees until puffed, about 30 to 40 minutes.
Serves: 10.Note: This can also be made with Rice Dream or soy milks and Eggbeaters or other egg substitute for a very low cholesterol breakfast or for someone who cannot tolerate dairy. Use sliced almonds instead of pecans if desired.
