German lentil soup recipe details
Ingredients
150 g | smoked speck or bacon |
250 g | red lentils |
3 | potatoes |
2 | onions, diced |
1 | carrot . diced |
½ | sellerie root, diced |
salt and pepper, to taste | |
vegetable stock cubes | |
4 | Frankfurter/Wiener sausages, optional |
Instructions
Dice the onions, carrot, celery root and potatoes. Wash the lentils.Cut the speck/bacon into small pieces and fry them in a large pot. Add about 2 litres of water, onions, carrot and celery root.
Bring to a boil, add the vegetable stock cubes and cook for about 10 minutes on low heat.
Add the lentils and cook everything until almost done. Add the potatoes. When everything is done season the soup with salt and pepper. Turn off the heat and if desired add the sausages and let them heat through in the soup.
Serve with rye bread.
