Egg nog recipe details
This is an only family favorite that mom used to make when I was a child. It is a bit more work than just buying it from a store, but it is well worth the trouble. It is thick, rich, creamy custard and an absolute must if I have friends coming in for the Holidays.

Ingredients
Serves: 6- 4 cups milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 egg yolk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 pint heavy cream
- 2 egg whites
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- nutmeg
Preparation method
Prep: 3 hours | Cook: 10 mins1. Scald the milk.
2. Beat the sugar into egg yolks. Temper the eggs with the scalded milk. Add mixture and salt to the scalded milk. Heat in a double boiler till the custard coats the back of a spoon. Refrigerate till cold.
3. Beat the cream to form stiff peaks. Beat egg whites till stiff. Slowly add 3 tablespoons of sugar. Add vanilla amd mix. Fold in the whipped cream into the custard. Slowly fold in egg whites. Chill till serving.
4. Spoon into cups. Serve with a sprinkle of grated nutmeg on top.
