Dj's german rye bread recipe details
Somewhat light in color, with taste of pure rye. I use Natural Sugar in place of regular Sugar. I also use less salt that most recipes. Very good warm, or toasted.

Ingredients
Serves: 16- 3 cups white flour
- 2 regular packages active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 Tablespoons shortening (prefer Crisco(R))
- 2 cups lukewarm water
- 1/8 cup Florida Crystal Natural Sugar
- 3 1/2 cups Dark Rye Flour
Preparation method
Prep: 30 mins | Cook: 45 mins | Extra time: 2 hours, rising1. Place white flour, yeast, and salt in large bowl and stir well.
2. Place shortening in bowl and melt. Then place lukewarm water, sugar, and shortening in bowl. Beat hard for 3 minutes!
3. Then combine all of the above ingredients and mix well. Let stand for about 5 minutes.
4. Mix in Rye flour. Stir in enough to make a soft dough. Knead 8 to 10 minutes. Then heat microwave for about 2 minutes. Turn microwave off. Quickly place dough mix in microwave and let rise until double. Then remove and deflate. Place dough in 2 greased loaf pans. Let rise again until double in size. Then place in pre-heated oven at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Remove, let sit for 10 minutes. Remove from pans and enjoy!
