Derbyshire oatcakes recipe details
Ingredients
500 g | oatmeal |
500 g | flour |
30 g | yeast |
1 tsp | sugar |
1 tsp | salt |
550 ml | warm water |
Instructions
In a bowl mix oatmeal, flour and salt.Cream yeast with sugar and add 230ml of the warm water. Mix together the yeast mixture with the dry ingredients and add the rest of the water. Keep mixing slowly until a thin batter is formed. Set aside in a warm place for about 30 minutes – until well risen.
Grease a large frying pan and heat it up. Using a ladle, portion the batter and pour into the pan and cook like thick pancakes for 4 – 5 minutes on each side.
Serve with bacon and eggs or with lemon juice and sugar, or toasted with cheese or golden syrup.
