Deep fried cod balls recipe details
Ingredients
350 g | dried salted cod |
1 | onion, roughly chopped |
1 tbsp | oil |
1 large | egg |
50 ml | milk |
salt | |
30 g | melted butter |
100 g | flour |
½ tsp | baking powder |
1 tsp | chili powder or a bit more |
½ l | oil, for deep-frying |
Instructions
Soak the cod fish for 24-48 h in water, depending on the thickness of the pieces. Change the water every 4-6 hours.Sauté the onions in hot oil until lucent. Squeeze and flake the fish, then pass the fish and the onions through a mincer.
Whisk the eggs with milk, salt and butter and mix in the minced fish. Mix the flour with the baking powder, then knead it little by little into the mixture until a pliable dough has formed. Season with salt (cautious, because of the salt cod), chili powder and pepper.
Shape the mixture to small balls and deep-fry the balls in the hot oil until golden and crispy. Remove superfluous fat on kitchen paper.
Serve as a snack or as a main dish with mashed potatoes and tartar sauce.
