Ingredients

225 ml warm water 40-45°C/100-110°F
25 g unsalted butter, softened
1 ½ tbsp sugar
1 ½ tsp salt
450 g bread flour
1 ¼ tsp bread machine yeast or easy bake yeast

Instructions

Place the ingredients in the bowl of the bread machine in the order specified by the manufacturers.

Select ‘Dough’ process if you intend to bake the bread in a loaf tin or ‘White Bread’ if you intend to allow the machine to complete the job. Select loaf size as 750g or 1½lb, crust colour of choice and ‘Bake’ and switch on machine. Check texture after initial mixing stage and adjust if required with a little more water or flour, as appropriate.

Option:replace a third to half of the white flour with an equal amount of wholemeal bread flour for a more nourishing loaf. You may need to change to ‘Wholemeal Loaf’ and use a little more water for the correct texture.
