Classic white bread recipe details
Ingredients
225 ml | warm water 40-45°C/100-110°F |
25 g | unsalted butter, softened |
1 ½ tbsp | sugar |
1 ½ tsp | salt |
450 g | bread flour |
1 ¼ tsp | bread machine yeast or easy bake yeast |
Instructions
Place the ingredients in the bowl of the bread machine in the order specified by the manufacturers.Select ‘Dough’ process if you intend to bake the bread in a loaf tin or ‘White Bread’ if you intend to allow the machine to complete the job. Select loaf size as 750g or 1½lb, crust colour of choice and ‘Bake’ and switch on machine. Check texture after initial mixing stage and adjust if required with a little more water or flour, as appropriate.
Option:replace a third to half of the white flour with an equal amount of wholemeal bread flour for a more nourishing loaf. You may need to change to ‘Wholemeal Loaf’ and use a little more water for the correct texture.
