Cheese batter bread recipe details
Ingredients
1 tbsp | active dried yeast |
60 ml | lukewarm water |
200 g | plain flour |
1 tbsp | granulated sugar |
½ tsp | salt |
125 g | unsalted butter, softened |
125 ml | lukewarm milk |
1 large | egg, beaten |
100 g | freshly grated Parmesan cheese |
25 g | cream cheese |
Instructions
Stir the yeast into the water and allow to rest for 5 minutes.In a large bowl thoroughly mix the flour, sugar and salt. Add the yeast liquid and all settled yeast, the butter, milk and egg and mix together. Add the Parmesan and beat vigorously for 2-3 minutes. A food mixer at medium speed can be used if wished, but is not necessary. Turn the dough into a lightly greased, well used pan (not one with a wooden or plastic handle) and dot the cream cheese on top. Cover with a damp tea towel and leave to rise in a warm place for at least 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 5, 190ºC, 375ºF and bake for about 20 minutes until well risen, firm to the touch and browned on top.
Remove from oven, cut into wedges and serve immediately.
A note of caution:
The pan and its handle will be quite hot! Use oven gloves or a substantial cloth to manipulate.
