Canadian Apple Cake recipe

Ingredients
80 g | rolled oats, quick cook |
70 g | plain flour, sifted |
½ tsp | ground allspice |
¼ tsp | nutmeg |
125 g | light brown sugar |
115 g | unsalted butter, softened and cut into small pieces |
60 g | walnuts, chopped |
60 ml | apple juice |
1 can(s) | apple pie filling or 3 or 4 medium cooking apples |
Instructions
If you are are unable to find apple pie filling, peel, core and slice 3 or 4 medium cooking apples. Place in a pan with about 60 ml of water and 2 tablespoons of sugar or more to taste and simmer until apples are tender and just losing texture. Allow to cool before using.
Preheat oven to Gas Mark 4, 180ºC, 350ºF. Grease a 9×13 inch, 22×33 cm baking dish.
Mix ingredients in the order shown until thoroughly mixed. Transfer to tin and bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown on top and a skewer inserted into centre comes out clean.
Cool in the tin for 10 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack to cool. Sprinkle sugar over top and cut into 3×3 inch, 7,5 cm x 7,5 cm squares.
