Bruce's big burger recipe details
A basic burger recipe using hand ground sirloin, pork, shallots, and BBQ rub. The secret is the handfull of wood chips thrown on the coals! I use a Weber(R) Kettle grill, and add cherry wood chips right before cooking.
Ready in: 45 mins
Ingredients
Serves: 4- 2 pounds ground sirloin
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 2 shallots, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup brown sugar BBQ rub
- 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
- 1 cup cherry wood chips (or your choice)
- 4 burger buns
Preparation method
Prep: 30 mins | Cook: 15 mins1. Combine freshly ground sirloin, ground pork, shallots, BBQ rub, and cracked pepper in a mixer until well combined, about 3 minutes. Form into four huge patties.
2. Preheat a charcoal grill for medium-high heat.
3. Throw the cherry chips onto the hot coals and place the burgers on the grill. Cover the grill and cook 4 minutes. Turn the burgers over and cook another 4 minutes with the lid closed. Don’t leave the lid open, or you’ll let the smoke escape!
4. Cook over charcoal on medium high heat for 4 minutes and turn. Cook for another 4 minutes. Do not open lid during cooking except to turn. Toast the buns on the grill for the best burgers.Ingredient note:
Make sure your BBQ rub is not too salty, or 1/2 cup will be a lot!
