Tangy, sweet, barbeque sauce with a complex flavor and just a little kick.

Ingredients

Serves: 10
  • 1 can roasted tomatoes
  • 2 tablepoons chipotle paste
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce or chili paste
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • salt to taste

Preparation method

Prep: 20 mins | Cook: 30 mins

1. Blend tomatoes, chipotle chili paste, and hot sauce together. In a saucepan, bring brown sugar, molasses, water, cider vinegar, honey, and vegetable oil to a boil. Add blended tomato mixture, liquid smoke, black pepper, and salt.
2. Let everything return to a boil and then reduce to a simmer for 25 more minutes. If the sauce isn’t thick enough for your liking, add a teaspoon of corn starch or some other root starch to thicken.
3. Let cool and and bottle, refrigerate.
