- 3 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons yeast (or 1 package)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 Tablespoons butter, melted or soft
- 3 Tablespoons water
- 3 Tablespoons milk
- 1/2 cup mashed ripe banana
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup walnuts, toasted
Place 1 cup flour and yeast in mixing bowl. Heat butter, milk, water, and sugar to 110 to 115 degrees. Pour into flour mixture. Add banana, egg, and salt. Mix for 2 to 3 minutes. Add 2 cups of flour and nuts; knead with dough hook until smooth. Place in warm place and let rise until double in size. Punch down and let rise again or place in refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
Divide dough into 3 equal pieces; roll each into a 15-inch rope. Braid the 3 ropes together, pinching ends to seal. Cover and let rise in warm place until double in size. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until done.
