Baked collard greens with rice ham recipe details

Ingredients
Serves: 6- 2 1/2 pounds fresh collard greens
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 small onion, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
- 4 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped
- 1/4 pound cooked ham, chopped
- 2 cups cooked white rice
- 1 (15 ounce) can chopped tomatoes, drained and liquid reserved
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 3/4 cup grated Cheddar cheese
- 2 tablespoons Tabasco(R) sauce
Preparation method
Prep: 10 mins | Cook: 50 mins1. With a small, sharp knife, cut the collard greens leaves away from the stems. Discard stems. Roll leaves up and slice.
2. Bring 2 inches of water to boil in a large steamer. Add trimmed, sliced collard greens leaves to the steamer basket; cook, covered, for about 5 minutes or until tender. Drain well, then chop coarsely.
3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
4. Pour oil into a Dutch oven and place over medium heat. Cook onion and garlic in hot oil for 5 minutes, then stir in ham and greens and cook for 2 more minutes.
5. Stir in rice, tomatoes and liquid, egg, 1/2 cup cheese, and hot sauce. Sprinkle with cheese. Place lid on Dutch oven.
6. Bake for 40 minutes.
