Apple french toast recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1 large loaf Italian bread, sliced thickly
- 9 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 3-1/2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 6 to 8 medium cooking apples (I use Granny Smith)
- butter to dot on top
Spray a glass 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Place bread slices tightly together in dish. In a bowl whisk together 1/2 cup sugar, milk, eggs, and vanilla. Pour 1/2 of egg mixture over bread. Peel, core, and slice the apples and arrange evenly over bread. Pour remaining egg mixture over all. Mix 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and sprinkle over apples. Dot with butter, cover, and refrigerate overnight. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. Let sit 10 minutes! Slice into squares and serve with warm syrup.
