Ingredients
500 g | shortcrust pastry, ready made or frozen |
6 medium | cooking apples, peeled, cored and thickly sliced |
125 g | brown sugar |
50 g | chopped walnuts |
55 g | plain flour |
tsp | vanilla extract |
2 tbsp | unsalted butter, cut into small pieces |
Instructions
Preheat oven to Gas Mark 4, 180ºC, 350ºF. Lightly grease a baking tray.Roll out the pastry to about the size of the baking tray and transfer it to the tray. Fold up the sides to a height of at least ¾ inch, 18-20 mm. Snip the corners with scissors or a shape knife and dampen the section where the corners meet with a little water. Pinch the corners together to seal.
In a bowl, mix together the apples, walnuts, sugar, flour and vanilla. Fill the centre of the pastry with the fruit mixture and then dot with butter.
Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the apples are soft and the pastry golden brown.
Cut into portions and serve immediately with cream or vanilla ice cream.
