Almost heaven french toast recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup butter or margarine
- 2 Tablespoons light corn syrup
- Six 1-inch thick pieces of French bread
- 5 eggs
- 1-1/2 cups milk
- 1-1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- Sliced strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries
- Powdered sugar
In a saucepan, cook and stir the brown sugar, butter, and light corn syrup until butter us melted. Pour this mixture into an ungreased 8 x 8 x 2-inch baking dish. Place bread into a single layer on top of the brown sugar mixture. Cut bread to totally fill the baking dish. Set aside. In a mixing bowl, beat eggs, milk, and cinnamon together. Pour over bread; cover and refrigerate overnight.
Remove cover and and bake in a 350-degree oven for 35 to 45 minutes or until the bread rises and it is lightly browned. Let the toast stand for about 10 minutes and then top with sliced fruit and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
