Walnut balls recipe details
Ingredients
1 | pate sucree, see database |
For the Filling: | |
200 g | walnut halves |
100 g | marzipan, grated |
100 g | smooth red jam, a tart rather than sweet variety |
To decorate: | |
100 g | baking chocolate, dark |
1 tbsp | white vegetable shortening/fat, (e.g. Holsum) |
Instructions
Make the pate sucree and leave to chill. Preheat the oven to 200°C.Chop 100g of the walnut halves. Finely grate the marzipan, mix with the walnuts and the jam.
Roll the pastry into about 50 little balls. Flatten them, making a little depression in the middle with your thumb. Place half a teaspoon of the filling inside and fold up the pastry into a ball again. Place half a walnut on the cookie and place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Bake the cookies for 20 minutes. Take them out the oven and cool.
To decorate, melt the chocolate with the shortening. Place melted chocolate in an icing bag with a small diameter nozzle and pipe thin lines across the cookies. If the chocolate is too runny, leave to cool a little.
