Ingredients
500 g | minced meat |
1 medium | onion, chopped |
200 g | rice, cooked |
3 tbsp | Dijon mustard |
1 medium | egg |
1 head(s) | green cabbage, core cut out and 8 whole leaves removed |
1 tbsp | olive oil |
2 clove(s) | garlic, minced |
450 ml | tomato puree |
400 g | tomatoes, diced |
2 tsp | sugar |
salt and pepper, to taste |
Instructions
In large saucepan, cook onion and beef until browned; drain well.In a bowl, mix together beef and onion mixture, cooked rice, mustard, egg, and salt and pepper.
Soak the cabbage leaves in hot water.
Chop remaining cabbage and add to beef and rice. Mix well. Then roll up some of the meat mixture in each cabbage leaf and set aside. Reserve any remaining meat mixture.
In a large skillet, combine garlic, tomato puree, diced tomatoes, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring frequently.
Place cabbage rolls in a large casserole. Top with any remaining meat mixture and pour tomato sauce over all.
Cover and bake at 130°C for 80-90 minutes until cabbage is tender.
