southwestern polish strata recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1/8 pound margarine (1/2 bar)
- 1 dozen eggs
- 1 cup milk
- white bread, sliced
- 1 can (4 to 8 ounces) chopped green chili
- 1 pound Kielbasa, cut into thin slices
- 1/2 pound sharp cheddar cheese, cut into slices
- salt and pepper
This isn’t from Southwestern Poland, but rather, it combines Kielbasa and green chili for a mouth-watering, spicy breakfast dish!
Grease a shallow Pyrex baking dish heavily with the margarine. Make a batter using the eggs and milk, salt and pepper to taste, set aside. Shave the crust from several slices of bread, and line baking dish. Fill in cracks with other pieces of bread until the bottom of the dish is completely covered. Spread half the chili, Kielbasa and cheese over the bread. Drench the bread and other ingredients with half the batter. Add another layer of bread, chili, Kielbasa and cheese, drench again. (If second layer doesn’t soak up all the batter, make batter, as needed.) Heat oven to 350 degrees. Put Strata into oven until Strata mixture rises and browns (perhaps one hour). Remove from oven, let cool, cut into squares.
