I live in Nebraska and the loosemeat style sandwich has been a small town, Midwest staple for as long as I can remember. My mom gave me this recipe, which she has had in her recipe box for ages. It nails the restaurant recipe on the head. It’s perfect for simmering on the stove, ready to eat when your family and friends are hungry.

Ingredients
Serves: 24- 5 lbs. lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 3 teaspoons prepared mustard
- 3 teaspoons cream style horseradish sauce
- 3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 3 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon MSG (“Accent” is one brand name)
- 1 cup warm water
- 24 hamburger buns
Preparation method
Prep: 10 mins | Cook: 40 mins1. Brown beef, stirring to break up the meat. Drain.
2. Stir in ketchup, prepared mustard, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, onion, MSG, and water.
3. Simmer on low heat for fifteen minutes. Bring to a boil and cook an additional 20 minutes, stirring often.
4. .Serve on buns with mustard and pickle.
