Red, white, and berry french toast recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1 loaf Challah bread (cinnamon raisin if you can find it)
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- Butter
- Topping:
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 cups strawberries, cut in half
- 1 cup blackberries
- 1 cup blueberries
Cut Challah into 1/2-inch thick slices and spread half of the pieces with cream cheese. Put two slices together to make a sandwich. Lightly beat eggs, add milk and cinnamon, and beat with a fork. Dip sandwiches and fry in butter on griddle. Top with warm berry compote and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
Topping:Make a light sugar syrup by heating the water and sugar together in a saute pan, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Add the lemon juice and berries and cook over medium heat 2 to 3 minutes, stirring gently every so often to coat the berries.
Note:Leftovers are fabulous over ice cream!
