Real green bean casserole recipe details
A green bean casserole made using “real” ingredients, other than the canned fried onions.

Ingredients
Serves: 6- 1 pound of fresh green beans (ends trimmed)
- 2 TBL olive oil
- 8 oz. mushrooms sliced
- salt & pepper to taste
- 2 Cloves garlic, minced
- 1 TBL flour
- 1 cup half and half
- 1 pinch nutmeg
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 2.8oz. cans of fried onions
Preparation method
Prep: 20 mins | Cook: 30 mins1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Cook green beans in a pot of salted boiling water until al dente. Immediately after cooking put green beans in ice water. Drain green beans and lay out on paper towels to dry.

4. Heat oil in a large saute pan over medium high heat. Cook mushrooms until tender (about 5 minutes). Season with salt and pepper. Add garlic cook until fragrent (30 seconds).
5. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms. stir and cook for 1 minute. Add half and half stiring to avoid lumps. Add nutmeg and cayenne. Reduce heat to medium and cook until thickened
6. Add green beans and milk. Stir to combine. Transfer to a greased casserole dish.
7. Bake 25 minutes or until hot and bubbling. Top with fried onions and bake 5 minutes more.
