Purple plum kuchen recipe details
- Ingredients for Butter Pastry:
- 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour (unsifted)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1 egg yolk
- Ingredients Filling:
- 4 cups purple prune plums, pitted and sliced
- 1-1/4 cups sugar
- 1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- One 8-ounce package cream cheese (room temperature)
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
Pastry: Combine flour, sugar, and salt. With fingers, rub in butter or margarine until mixture is mealy, then stir in egg yolk. Work dough into a ball. Press evenly into bottom of a 9-inch square baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
Arrange fruit on the top of the butter pastry and sprinkle evenly with 1/2 cup of the sugar and cinnamon. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, beat cream cheese with eggs, sour cream, the remaining 3/4 cup sugar, vanilla, and lemon peel. Remove pastry from oven. Pour cream cheese mixture on top. Bake about 35 minutes until center is set when pan is jiggled. Cool, then chill well.
