Pickled herring in red wine marinade recipe details
Ingredients
10 | salted herrings, filleted and cut into bite-sized pieces |
¼ l | dry red wine |
250 g | sugar |
¼ l | red wine vinegar |
2 | bay leaves |
2 | cloves |
1 tsp | freshly ground black pepper |
375 g | onion, thinly sliced |
Instructions
Mix together the wine, vinegar, sugar, bay leaves, cloves and the pepper. Stir in the onions and bring to a boil. Cook for a minute, then remove from the heat and allow to cool completely.With a slotted spoon, take out the onions and layer them in turn with the fish into a glass bowl. Pour over the marinade. Cover and marinate for 2 days before serving.
