Make ahead sausage chile strata recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1 pound Italian sausage – cooked, drained and chopped
- 4 cups sourdough or dense French bread with crust removed, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 6 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese
- One 7-ounce can green chiles, chopped
Grease 9 x 13-inch pan. Place bread cubes evenly on bottom of pan. Whip eggs with whisk. Blend into beaten eggs: mustard, milk, and 2 cups of cheese (reserve 1 cup). Pour mixture evenly over bread crumbs. Spoon sausage and chilies over egg mixture. Sprinkle remaining cheese over top. Cover tightly with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight.
In the morning: Preheat to 350 degree. Fifteen minutes before baking, remove pan from refrigerator. Place in oven and bake 30 minutes with foil remaining on top. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes. Remove and allow to cool 5 minutes before cutting and serving.
