Ingredients

  1. Gram lentils(channay ki daal) – 2 cups
  2. Tamarind pulp (imli ka gooda) – 4 tbsp
  3. Lemon juice – 4 tbsp
  4. Jaggery (gurh) – 1 tbsp
  5. Bay leaves (curry patta) – 10
  6. Mustard seeds (rai dana) – 1 tsp
  7. Red chillies – 6
  8. Garlic – 2 cloves
  9. Turmeric powder (haldi) – 1 tsp
  10. Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
  11. White cumin seeds (sufaid zeera) – 1 tsp
  12. Salt – 1 tsp
  13. Asofoetida (heeng) – 1 pinch
  14. Oil – 4 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Boil lentils
  2. Add turmeric, salt, jaggery, red chilli powder and bay leaves
  3. Cook for ½ an hour
  4. Add tamarind pulp and Asofoetida and stir well
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan and add garlic, red chillies, cumin seeds and mustard seeds
  6. When it gives aroma, pour over lentils and sprinkle lemon juice
