Ingredients
- Gram lentils(channay ki daal) – 2 cups
- Tamarind pulp (imli ka gooda) – 4 tbsp
- Lemon juice – 4 tbsp
- Jaggery (gurh) – 1 tbsp
- Bay leaves (curry patta) – 10
- Mustard seeds (rai dana) – 1 tsp
- Red chillies – 6
- Garlic – 2 cloves
- Turmeric powder (haldi) – 1 tsp
- Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
- White cumin seeds (sufaid zeera) – 1 tsp
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Asofoetida (heeng) – 1 pinch
- Oil – 4 tbsp
Instructions
- Boil lentils
- Add turmeric, salt, jaggery, red chilli powder and bay leaves
- Cook for ½ an hour
- Add tamarind pulp and Asofoetida and stir well
- Heat oil in a frying pan and add garlic, red chillies, cumin seeds and mustard seeds
- When it gives aroma, pour over lentils and sprinkle lemon juice
