Honey baked apples recipe details
- Ingredients:
- 5 large Granny Smith apples
- honey
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- orange zest
- apple or pear juice
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- cinnamon
- cloves
Any apple will do to create this heart-warming dish for a special house guest or your loving family. All will enjoy the soothing flavors and aromas.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Line the bottom of a 10 x 15-inch baking dish with a thin layer of honey. Halve and core apples. Set apples cut side down on honey. Sprinkle raisins, nuts, orange zest, cinnamon and cloves around apples. Cut butter into pieces and sprinkle over apples. Puncture each apple in a discreet place with toothpick to allow steam to escape and prevent apples from splitting.
Pour cider over apples to 1/3 way up side of baking dish. Bake for 30 minutes until apples are tender but still holding their shape. Serve each apple half with cooked juices in an individual dish, cut side up, with large spoonful of raisin and nut mixture in the center.
Serves:10
Variation: Maple Almond Baked Apples. Replace honey with maple syrup and walnuts with sliced almonds.
*If preparing to cook the next day, simply add juice immediately before cooking.
