Grandma payettes appleor any dried fruit butter details
This fat-free topping can be used on breads, pancakes, hot cereal, or even yogurt ice cream. I prefer unsulfured dried fruit nuts, obtainable in health food stores. You can also use a mixed dried fruit combination and play with the spices to find what you like.
- Ingredients
- 1/4 pound dried apples
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 cups apple juice (1/4 cups frozen to 1-3/4 cups water), unsweetened
In a large saucepan, combine sliced apples, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and apple juice. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and cool slightly. Pour into blender and blend until smooth. Cool to room temperature and refrigerate in tightly covered container. It will keep for weeks.
