Garlic sauce recipe details
Ingredients
1 large | onion, chopped |
8 clove(s) | garlic, crushed |
salt and freshly ground black pepper | |
2 | bay leaves, torn |
550 ml | milk |
50 g | butter |
200 g | stale white bread, crusts removed |
freshly grated nutmeg | |
4 tbsp | double cream |
Instructions
In a saucepan combine the milk with onion, garlic, bay leaves and butter. Season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15-20 minutes. Take from heat and leave to cool.Strain the milk sauce into a saucepan. Add the chopped bread and leave to soak for 10 minutes. Whisk the sauce until smooth. Add the cream and bring to a boil. Simmer, stirring, for a few minutes. Season to taste with salt, pepper and nutmeg.
Serve hot with poached fish or poultry.
