First farm inn recipe details
- Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups cubed rhubarb
- 1 cup boiling water
“This is my version; the original is all white flour. My Grandma had eight children, four boys and four girls. Her husband died when her youngest was 14. All but the youngest of the boys served in WWII. Each of the older four were given responsibility for one of the younger. “
In 8 inch square pan, cream butter and 1/2 cup sugar. Add whole wheat flour, salt, baking powder, and milk. Stir to form a batter and spread around pan. Mix cubed rhubarb with 1 cup sugar and spread over batter. Pour boiling water over all. Bake at 350 for 60 minutes.
Variations:Any kind of berries, fresh or frozen, reduce sugar by 1/4 to 1/2 cup. If frozen reduce boiling water by at least half. Tart cherries, if fresh follow rhubarb directions, if frozen reduce water.
